Fiji Tourism Chief Executive Officer Josefa Tuamoto has roundly applauded Continental Airlines Micronesia’s decision to commence direct services to Fiji next month describing the move as a major boost for the national tourist office’s aspirations in both the US and Japan.

Commencing on 18 September 2009 the airline will begin operating direct services from both its main Pacific hub in Guam and also from Honolulu to Nadi.

Both services have been scheduled to feed directly into existing services the airline currently operates with its parent carrier, Continental Airlines, from a variety of ports within the US mainland and several Japanese cities.

The decision, Tuamoto said, represented a major boost for Fiji’s tourism and Real Estate industry after what has proven a slow start to the year for visitor arrivals from both the US and Japanese markets to visit luxury homes for sale.

“While visitor arrival figures from both countries have been coming back to strength over the last three months, these new services will play a major role in accelerating visitor numbers and enable even more American and Japanese visitors to visit Fiji,” he said.

“We are obviously delighted with the news and the potential it offers our tourism industry from both of these major visitor and home buyer source markets.” Continental Micronesia will operate state of the art Boeing 737-800 aircraft on both routes.

Flights ex-Guam will operate into Nadi every Monday and Friday, departing on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Flights ex-Honolulu will operate into Nadi on Mondays and Fridays, returning to Honolulu on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
